What a verified matrimony profile means

Reachability, identity and circumstance

Matrimonial platforms use one word, "verified", for several different things, and families reasonably read the strongest possible meaning into it. Three things get conflated:

• Reachability. A phone number received a code and someone entered it. This shows access to a number at that moment. It does not establish identity.
• Identity. A government identity document was checked, and the person presenting it appears to be the person on it. This can support a name-and-face match; it does not confirm the other claims in a profile.
• Circumstance. Marital status, employment, income, education, family background. These need separate, relevant checks; an identity document alone does not establish them.

Read the platform's explanation of the check rather than assuming what "verified" means. Match & Wed does not display a verified badge. Our approach to community matrimony keeps profile review separate from the checks families need to make themselves.

Profile review on Mali Sagai

Mali Sagai is live. This section separates the human-review standard from its document-check process and the standard for verification claims across Match & Wed community platforms.

• Human profile review. Our standard is for a person to review profiles before publication. Approval is separate from identity verification and does not guarantee that a profile is genuine or safe.
• Where an identity document is checked, it is checked by a person — and the result is never worn as a badge. On Mali Sagai a government identity document is part of the review for a man's profile, read by the same person who approves it; a woman's profile is not asked for one. A document that is unclear, expired, altered or not a government ID is refused. Two limits matter more than the check itself. It is not shown to other members: no profile anywhere on Match & Wed displays a "verified" badge, and you will not be able to tell from a profile whether a document was seen. Nor can you infer it from the app's records: the check moved inside the app partway through, and members reviewed before that were asked for their document over WhatsApp instead, so the app holds no entry for them. Treat the check as part of how a profile got approved, not as a claim being made to you.
• Nothing that cannot be checked will be marked as checked. If a platform cannot confirm an income or a marital status, the profile will show that the member stated it — not that the platform confirmed it.

What verification cannot do

A profile or document check cannot replace the separate checks a family needs to make:

• An identity check does not establish marital status. Confirm that separately rather than relying on profile approval or an identity document.
• An identity check does not establish intent. Knowing a person's identity does not predict their behaviour or make a money request safe.
• It does not establish who writes each message. Ask who manages the profile and who you are speaking with, including when a family member is involved.
• It is a check at one moment. Circumstances can change. Confirm important details again before making a commitment.

This is why the safety guidance asks you to confirm the important things independently — through the employer, the institution, and people in the community who know the family. A past check is not a substitute for current information.

Documents and what happens to them

An identity document is among the most sensitive things a person can hand over, and the commitment is therefore narrow and specific. Where a Match & Wed community platform asks for a government identity document, it is used for that one check — confirming a person is who they say they are, which is what makes a fabricated profile harder to build — and it is not shown to other members, not used for advertising, and not shared with that platform's partners.

On Mali Sagai, where that check runs today, the document is submitted so that a person can read it, and it is held while that review is still open. When the reviewer decides — whether the profile is accepted or refused — the document is deleted. Two things are worth being plain about. It is stored temporarily rather than not at all, because a human being has to be able to look at it. And what removes it is the decision, not a clock: how long a review takes varies, so no number of hours is promised here.

A community platform that asks for a document sets out its own handling of one in its own privacy policy, shown to you inside it. The privacy policy on this website is a different and much shorter document: this website has no account, no upload and no form, and it describes both that and the technical detail its hosting provider necessarily processes to serve a page.

Reporting a profile you believe is false

Report it inside the app you are using. Every Match & Wed community platform carries a report route on the profile itself, and it reaches a person who can remove the account. On Mali Sagai that is the block and report option on a member's profile; reports there are read and acted on. Blocking is separate and immediate — it does not wait for anyone to review anything.

Report from inside the product rather than writing to the contact page: the report arrives attached to the profile and the conversation, which is what makes it actionable. What a report cannot be promised is an outcome — it is read and judged, not automatically enforced. What does a verified profile mean in matrimony?

It means only the specific check described by that platform. Ask what was checked and when. Profile approval is not the same as identity verification, and neither guarantees that every profile detail is true. Match & Wed does not display a verified badge.

Is phone OTP the same as identity verification?

No. Entering a one-time password shows access to a phone number at that moment. It does not establish who is using it or confirm the identity behind a profile.

Does verification prove marital status, employment, income, education, character or safety?

No. A phone or identity check does not establish these, or a person's intent or family background. Treat each as a separate matter to confirm; verification is not a guarantee.

What should families verify independently?

Discuss marital status and expectations, check employment and education with the employer or institution, and contact community references with the person's consent.
